Leggings do’s and don’ts
Leggings are a popular staple to wear by many but doing it right is the most important part!
Make sure your top covers your bottom! These garments are most times see thru ladies, we should not be able to see your unmentionables. Think of them as tights not stretch pants. Avoid skin tones or light colors, black leggings are the most classy!
For a casual look they are always nicely paired with a long button down shirt or tunic. There are so many ways to wear them well, just find the style that best compliments your body and own personal style. I personally love the images in this post, one is very casual sweat shirt with fabulous boots for a casual look or the asymmetrical tunic top for a dressier look.
Be sure to stick to the dark colors they are certainly the best and make your legs appear longer, also be critical of the length of your top, sometimes one that hits mid thigh and straight across makes you appear larger than you are. Look for different hems and opt for something a little different. They are a wardrobe staple so make sure you are looking fabulous in them!
How to know if the garment will fit.
I understand that accurate measurements are crucial when shopping online, thats why I supply measurements of every garment rather than a generalised size charts
The measurement is taken from side seam to side seam directly under the armhole or sleeve and then doubled. You will often see for the bust the relaxed to a gentle stretch measurement to show the maximum bust fit with stretch fabrics.
The measurement is taken from side to side at the lower waistline and doubled.
The measurement is taken from side to side of the hip and doubled.
Top of shoulder to bottom hem or for bottoms the top seam to the bottom
So whats the best way to know the garment is going to fit? I suggest measuring a similar fabric at home (i.e stretch or non stretch material) to ensure a good fit. If you shop by your body measurements there’s a few things you should remember:
- For most stretch garments you want your bust to fall in the middle to get that semi fitted look.
- For non stretch garments you need to allow room, if your bust is 140cm you don’t want to buy a top that is 140cm, it will be too tight! You need room to move.
- With your waist and hips if you don’t want them to cling, make sure your measurements are under the relaxed measurement shown.
- For dresses, the general rule of thumb for dresses are get your bust fit right and the rest of the dress falls into place.
